Designing Worlds DW315 - UWA Farewell

For several years, the University of Western Australia under the guidance of JayJay Zifanwe has been recognised as a centre of excellence for virtual art and artists, with regular art competitions, extensive galleries and stunning works on display.

Today this is under threat due to budget cuts at UWA. Most, but not all, of the existing regions will disappear. We talk to JayJay, and curator FreeWee Ling to discover what will go and what will stay; find out the likely path for the future, and see some of the exhibits before they disappear.

We also hear from several artists who have been involved with UWA who pay tribute to its innovation and unique place in the world of virtual art.

  • G.M.Jegasothy Added well done and congratulations all round. JJ should submit this work for his own Phd in Real Life!
  • Sheba Blitz Added Would be so sad to see the UWA Virtual Art World go. It has been such a wonderful thing to be part of.
  • Ronin1 Shippe (SL) Added I hope UWA administration will eventually reconsider. They have a wonderfully talented art staff, and have contributed immensely to both SL and the development of a truly new medium of art.
  • Sean Tempest Added Well I hope at least there is still some presence left in the future. The UWA challenges have been a beautiful, learning, and inspiring experience for me, as well as many others no doubt. I would hate to see it all gone :( You are awesome ! Sean Tempest (SL)
